LulaRoost Zero Tolerance Policy

No LulaRoost driver may be under the influence of any amount of alcohol or drugs while logged in to the app or giving a ride. A report of impairment takes the driver offline at once. A confirmed violation removes the driver from LulaRoost permanently.

This is LulaRoost's zero tolerance intoxicating substance policy under Code of Alabama §32-7C-30 and the Alabama Public Service Commission's rules. It is posted at lularoost.com/zero-tolerance.

1. Who it covers

  • Every LulaRoost driver, from the moment they log in to the app until they log out. That includes time waiting for a ride request, driving to a pickup and driving between rides.

  • Every vehicle used for LulaRoost rides.

2. What is prohibited

While logged in to the LulaRoost app or giving a ride, a driver may not:

  • drink any alcohol, or drive after drinking any amount

  • use or be under the influence of any illegal drug, including marijuana

  • drive while affected by any medication or other substance that impairs driving, even a legal one

  • carry an open container of alcohol in the car's passenger area

A driver who has had any alcohol or drugs, or who feels impaired for any reason, must stay logged out.

3. How to report a violation

  • In an emergency, call 911.

  • During a ride. A rider who believes the driver is impaired can ask to end the ride and get out as soon as it's safe, then use the app's safety button.

  • After a ride. Report it from the trip receipt (Report a safety issue > Driver impairment), or email [email protected].

  • To the state. Anyone can file a complaint with the Alabama Public Service Commission's Utility Enforcement Division at psc.alabama.gov.

  • Other sources. Reports from police, LulaRoost staff and other drivers are handled the same way.

4. Immediate suspension

The moment LulaRoost receives a report that a driver may have violated this policy, the app takes the driver offline and blocks new ride requests. The suspension lasts until the investigation is finished.

5. Investigation

  • Notice to the driver. LulaRoost tells the driver about the suspension within 24 hours, with the reason, without naming the rider.

  • Review. LulaRoost speaks with the rider and asks the driver for a statement. It reviews the trip's GPS data (speed, hard braking and route), any police report, any dash camera footage the driver shares, and earlier reports.

  • Timing. LulaRoost finishes the investigation within 14 business days.

  • Decision. The driver receives a written decision with the reason, in the app and by email.

6. Corrective measures

7. Appeals

A driver may appeal a decision within 30 days, in the app or at [email protected], as Section 11 of the Driver Agreement provides. A staff member who wasn't part of the original decision reviews the appeal and decides within 14 business days.

8. No retaliation

No one is penalized for making a report in good faith.

9. Notice and training

  • Public notice. This policy, and how to report a violation, is posted at lularoost.com/zero-tolerance and summarized at the top of lularoost.com/safety. Every page of the website links to the Safety page, and the app's Help menu links to this policy.

  • Drivers. Every driver reviews and accepts this policy before their first ride, and again at each yearly re-check.

10. Records

LulaRoost keeps each report, the investigation notes and the outcome for 2 years after the investigation closes, as the Alabama Public Service Commission's rules require.
